Full time cake baker for my partners cake business “Lauras Little Bakery” (which she has ran for 12 years now) and have been involved since a week before the first lockdown!
I was then promoted to head baker last August when Laura’s eldest daughter moved to Southampton for uni!
My BBQ journey started in 2015 after visiting my cousin in South Africa. The Braai life got me big time! After another visit in 2017 I thought I was the man, cooking on a shit B&Q BBQ every summer until Laura surprised me with a KJ! After researching and coming across Masked Griller on insta I wanted to get involved with the community! Then we had a house fire and lost everything, we were in bed and had to escape out of the bedroom window! Afterwards I suffered really bad and was diagnosed with PTSD. I become a new person, didn’t like leaving my bubble in case anything happened. Cooking is where I felt at home. So after a few cooks on my personal page I decided to make a BBQ page! The name “Smoke Faced Grilla” comes from a picture while I was in the hospital which is in my first post. It made people laugh the day of the fire 😂 so I combined that with a rapper from my favourite group, Wu Tang Clan, Ghost Face Killa.
Fire was the thing that made me lose all control. By BBQing I’m control the thing that made me lose control, it's the ultimate therapy!
A year into SFG and I’ve done pop ups, sold out events, entered and won 2 competitions and made a load of mates!
